Young leaders the future of Dubbo
07 October 2009Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch has taken the opportunity to listen to future young leaders in Dubbo's Aboriginal community.
Mr Lynch was in Dubbo today to meet a number of organisations including the Dubbo and Wellington Young Aboriginal People's Regional Roundtable (YAPRR) and local school students.
"Young people have a lot to offer our communities and it's vital they have a forum to develop ideas and share their experiences," Mr Lynch said.
He said Dubbo College Senior Campus students Penny Dunn, Daryl Kemp, Angel Towney and Eric Fernando recently attended "The Gathering", an Indigenous Youth Leadership conference in Brisbane.
"These four students are the first public school students to ever take part in this national event and are taking great initiative to develop their leadership skills," Mr Lynch said.
He said today was also a good opportunity to meet with the YAPRR delegates to discuss their upcoming meeting.
Dubbo and Wellington YAPRR delegates are:
- Brinae West - Dubbo
- Laura Chatfield - Wellington
- Kris Kelly - Wellington
Mr Lynch said the region's young leaders occupied an important leadership position for Dubbo into the future.
"Ideas and feedback generated by the Young Aboriginal People's Regional Roundtable are taken into account by the NSW Government when it makes decisions about the delivery of services in our region," he said.
