Young people the future for Lightning Ridge

17 September 2009

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch has taken the opportunity to listen to future young leaders in Lightning Ridge's Aboriginal community.

Mr Lynch was in Lightning Ridge today to meet a number of organisations including the Murdi Paaki Young Leaders Group which forms part of the Young Aboriginal People's Regional Roundtable.

"Young people have a lot to offer our communities and it's vital they have a forum to develop ideas and share their experiences," Mr Lynch said.

"The ideas and outcomes of the Roundtable will provide advice to the Government so the way we deliver services can be tailored around the advice we receive from young people," he said.

"Quality leadership is vital to building active and dynamic communities," Mr Lynch said. The Murdi Paaki Aboriginal Young Leaders has been in operation for four years.

Mr Lynch also visited the Lightning Ridge Community Working Party, Wirringha Women's Talk, Yawarra Meamei Women's Group and Barriekneal House and Community.
