NSW Government supports Red Ochre Festival
08 September 2009The NSW Government will provide $7000 towards the Red Ochre Festival, to be held in Victoria Park, Dubbo on Sunday.
Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch said the Red Ochre Festival showcased the depth and richness of the region's Aboriginal culture and talent.
This year, the Festival features acts including the Deep Creek Band, the launch of the Bre Sisters' CD, West Papuan singers and dancers, the Moody Boys, Buninyong Dancers and the Nambucca Valley Elders' Choir.
"The festival, now in its seventh year, is building a strong reputation and is expected to attract visitors from across New South Wales," Mr Lynch said.
Entry to the Festival is free for visitors.
"The NSW Government is pleased to be able to cover expenses related to stage and sound equipment hire, jumping castles and other costs," Mr Lynch said.
The Festival will be launched on Saturday, 12 September, when a documentary about the influence of Christianity in Aboriginal communities will be screened.
