Minister visits Murdi Paaki young leaders

06 August 2009

Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch today visited young leaders from the Murdi Paaki region at Coomealla.

Mr Lynch recently met the young leaders when they visited NSW Parliament as part of a four-day leadership development program.

The young leaders are representing Gulargambone, Walgett, Goodooga, Brewarrina, Broken Hill, Coonamble, Lightning Ridge, Cobar and Wentworth-Dareton.

The Murdi Paaki Aboriginal Young Leaders has been in operation for four years.

"Members of the Aboriginal Young Leaders group attend Community Working Party meetings in the communities where they live," Mr Lynch said.

"These young leaders are also involved in the development of a youth action plan in their communities," he said.

Mr Lynch said quality leadership was vital to building active and dynamic communities.

Twice a year the Aboriginal Young Leaders meet with the Murdi Paaki Regional Assembly.

The group also forms the Young Aboriginal People Regional Roundtable (YAPRR).
