A Stone Throw Away receives extra funding
09 April 2009Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Paul Lynch today announced extra funding towards the A Stone Throw Away project.
Speaking in Taree today, Mr Lynch said the extra $5000 would allow the Greater Taree Council to continue the important project.
"This project has successfully engaged young Aboriginal people in recreational activities to foster cultural pride, improve relationships and tackle anti-social behaviour," Mr Lynch said.
He said the program was delivering encouraging results. "Three young men have already re-started school while another give young people are being prepared to re-enter the education system," Mr Lynch said.
He said the funding for the project was one of the ways the NSW Government was supporting the Taree-Purfleet Aboriginal community.
The NSW Government is also recruiting a Partnership Community Project Officer to help the community strengthen local governance structures.
