Two young staff members from the Department were delighted to meet Arundhati Roy when they escorted a group of South Australian women to official functions for the author and 2004 Peace Prize winner. The women were Aunty Avis Dunnett, Aunty Gwen Miller and Aunty April Lawrie Smith, representatives of the Ceduna Aboriginal Women’s Group, Weena Mooga Gu Gudba Incorporated, to which Ms Roy had decided to give a share of her prize money.

NSW Reconciliation
The NSW Reconciliation Council leads the way in the reconciliation movement, having the largest membership in Australia. During 2003-04 council membership doubled, growing from just under 1000 to nearly 2000 members.
Members came together on 28 and 29 October when the NSW Reconciliation Council held their Annual General Conference. The conference provides an opportunity for delegates from across the state to meet, discuss issues and provide input to reconciliation through the council.
