Making It Our Business Consultations

The MIOB Policy and Strategic Framework is the Government's key strategy to increase the employment, professional learning and career development of Aboriginal people in the NSW public sector. A recent survey of agencies indicates that MIOB is under-utilised in the sector. The MIOB Consultation Forums will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal employees, their supervisors and Human Resource Managers from across the NSW public sector to progress the next phase of MIOB through an MIOB action plan.

The action plan will include practical agency and sector level actions and best practices to improve the attraction, skills acquisition, career development and retention of Aboriginal people.

Four MIOB forums will be held concurrently in Sydney, Dubbo, Lismore and Wagga Wagga.

The target groups for the forums are:

· Aboriginal staff

· supervisors of Aboriginal staff

· all agency Human Resource Managers.

All staff in these target groups are strongly encouraged to attend the Forums. Human Resource Managers are particularly encouraged to nominate for the forums. They will gain insights directly from Aboriginal employees on the day and all participants will have the opportunity to give input to the development of the MIOB action plan.

Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) in partnership with Department of Aboriginal Affairs is hosting the forums. We aim to involve a representative range of employees from different locations, occupations, ages and salary levels.

We would appreciate your assistance in informing your agency Aboriginal employees, their supervisors and your Human Resource Managers of the forums and supporting them to attend.

Nominations to attend the forums close on 6 February 2009 .
