Community Development

The Department of Aboriginal Affairs has developed programs designed to improve the social wellbeing of Aboriginal people, families and communities in NSW.

These programs are based on identifying and mobilising local strengths and capacities. DAA recognises that successful community development comes from within Aboriginal communities, not from the top down.

The Aboriginal Communities Development Program is a capital works program to upgrade living conditions in Aboriginal communities.

Strategies to support economic development and leadership and capacity building have also been developed.
