Premier's 2009 Excellence Awards
Nominations for the Premier's 2009 Excellence Awards Recognising Leadership in Aboriginal Communities are now open.

Awards will recognise individuals or organisations demonstrating leadership and excellence in delivering services to the community in each of the following categories:

  • Strong Communities - Family Support and Assistance
  • Education - Learning and Knowledge
  • Health - Wellbeing: Body and Mind
  • Health - Healthy Environment
  • Employment - Getting on with Business
  • Building Community Leadership
The awards provide the opportunity for both communities and the NSW Government to recognise the tireless effort being made by Aboriginal people across the State.

Interagency Plan Progress Report, August 2009
The NSW Government is committed to preventing child sexual assault and to improving services to Aboriginal children and their families who have been affected by child sexual assault. The Interagency Plan to Tackle Child Sexual Assault in Aboriginal Communities, 2006-11 was developed following on from the recommendations of the Child Sexual Assault Taskforce. The Report on Progress August 2009 details significant achievements to June 2009 and progress against each of the 88 actions of the Interagency Plan.

Land dealings amendment Bill
The Aboriginal Land Rights Amendment Bill 2009 was passed by the NSW Parliament on 8 September 2009 and gained the Governor's assent on 16 September 2009. It is expected that the amendments to the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 will commence in early 2010.

Procurement Policy Framework
Responsibility for whole-of-government procurement and asset management policy was transferred to the NSW Treasurer on 1 July 2003. On 1 July 2004, the NSW Government approved reforms to provide a simplified procurement process. NSW Treasury Circular TC 04/07 provides direction on the reforms.

Inaugural Premier's Excellence Awards winners announced
Recognising that Aboriginal community strength and commitment is key to closing the gap on Aboriginal disadvantage, the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, the Hon Paul Lynch MP, announced the Inaugural Premier's Excellence Awards Recognising Leadership in Aboriginal Communities winners at a special ceremony on 17 November 2008.



Making It Our Business
The Two Ways Together Partnership Community Program is The MIOB Policy and Strategic Framework is the Government's key strategy to increase the employment, professional learning and career development of Aboriginal people in the NSW public sector. A recent survey of agencies indicates that MIOB is under-utilised in the sector. The MIOB Consultation Forums will provide an opportunity for Aboriginal employees, their supervisors and Human Resource Managers from across the NSW public sector to progress the next phase of MIOB through an MIOB action plan.

Two Ways Together Partnership Community Program
The Two Ways Together Partnership Community Program is a priority of the NSW State Plan and is the local level implementation of Two Ways Together: The NSW Aboriginal Affairs Plan (2003-2012). The Program provides an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal communities and government agencies to work together to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people on the ground.

Two Ways Together Report on Indicators
The Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, The Hon Paul Lynch MP, has launched the second Two Ways Together Report on Indicators.

Aboriginal Participation in Construction Guidelines
The Aboriginal participation in Construction Guidelines was re-published in a simplified format to promote their greater use. Through these guidelines the NSW Government is creating employment opportunities for Aboriginal people in the private sector. Under the Guidelines, NSW Government agencies can require construction companies engaged on government-funded construction activities to include Aboriginal people in those projects by employing Aboriginal staff, or by sub-contracting to Aboriginal enterprises.
